Retro Sound is brought to you by THE VIP LOUNGE LTD and is the 3rd in a growing family of radio stations.
The first station THE VIP LOUNGE was launched in 2015 from Media City in Salford and though it began as an online station, during 2025 was awarded a Small Scale Digital Audio Broadcasting (SSDAB) licence by OFCOM, the authority that governs all mainstream media with the U.K.
THE VIP LOUNGE maintains an online presence but on the 1st January, 2026 began broadcasting on the second generation of Digital Audio broadcasting (known as DAB+) across Cardiff, the capital City of Wales and the surrounding areas.
THE VIP LOUNGE has presenter-led programming 24 hours each day and plays mainly pop music dating from the 1970s right up until today.
The second station within the group is called THE VIP LOUNGE ONLINE. This station was launched at the beginning of October of 2023 to complement the first station. Maintaining listener interest via app, smart device and via a dedicated website, THE VIP LOUNGE ONLINE streams THE VIP LOUNGE, but hosts an opt-out service in order to offer a choice of programmes from which listeners can pick.
Finally we bring you RETRO SOUND. Some of our listeners have expressed an interest to hear a station where the music is not interrupted by presenters, adverts or even news. They just want to be entertained somewhere that the music can do the talking. They don't want to hear the same songs being replayed hour after hour. They want hand picked quality classic pop songs which bring back memories of happy times and that's what RETRO SOUND aims to do.
